Middlebrook Encampment – Bridgewater, New Jersey

BRIDGEWATER – The Washington Campground Association will hold its celebration of the 245th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence at the Middlebrook Encampment on Middlebrook Road on July 4.

This will be the group’s 127th annual celebration at the campground which is one of the first sites where Betsy Ross’ American flag flew over the Continental Army commanded by Gen. George Washington in 1777.

The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a welcome from Bound Brook Mayor Fazen, a retired lieutenant colonel and West Point graduate, who is also president of the Washington Campground Association, and Bridgewater Mayor Matt Moench.

The Washington Camp Ground Association will hold its annual Fourth of July celebration at Camp Middlebrook on the Bridgewater-Bound Brook border.

Bound Brook Borough Councilman Jake Hardin, an Army veteran and West Point graduate, will read the Declaration of Independence.

The Washington Encampment is a portion of the land Washington used for his Middlebrook encampments. The 19-acre plot was granted to the Washington Campground Association by the George LaMonte in 1884.
